10 Best Overnight Nappies in Australia 2024

16 August 2024  |  Admin

Sleep is just the best gift for parents of any baby. It makes life SO much more possible if you have managed some shut eye.

Not always easy to control when you have babies and toddlers and they haven;t started sleeping through, but one thing you CAN control is a good overnight nappy to for dry nights to save changing bed clothes in the morning... No one needs more laundry!

Here at Cheeky we've been all about 'Simple Reusables' since we launched our bestselling reusable wipes kit way back in 2008. Since then we've expanded our range to include reusable period products and of course cloth nappies and accessories.

We've collated this list of the best overnight nappies in Australia for you, comparing what's best in the market for both disposable and reusable nappies. And along the way, we'll show you what to look out for with 'greenwashing' from some eco nappy brands.

We highly recommend that if you're looking for sustainable nappies that you consider reusable. With ANY type of disposable nappy, the clue is in the name..disposable = more resources used and more waste.

Best Overnight Reusable Nappies

Most Modern Reusable Overnight Nappy: Mimi & Co Bamboo Fitted Night Nappy & PUL Cover $61.98

We like this nappy because it's a fitted bamboo nappy, i.e. it covers the entire bottom area of your baby and poppers closed at the side. Covered with a TPU wrap, and with additional boosters to boost absorbency if necessary, it's a cracking night nappy for heavy wetters.

Type: Fitted Bamboo Nappy & PUL Wrap

Material: Bamboo / Organic Cotton / TPU Recycled Plastic Outer

Sizing: One size fits most should fit from birth as long as you have a large-ish baby, right through to potty training

Customer reviews: "For context, my 6 month old had been waking up at 5am every morning with nappy leaks. He feeds 1-2 times and night and also right before bed (all 180ml bottles). He takes a lot to get back to sleep as is so we don’t want to change his nappy and make the process even harder for ourselves. We tried different brands of disposables, sizing up, 2 disposable nappies, one on top of the other, all resulting in leaks! We tried a reusable nappy over the top of a disposable and this one was 50/50. Thank goodness we found this overnight nappy! It took a few goes to work out what shell to put over the top and how tight to make it but now we’ve absolutely nailed it. Another thing that we found works best is folding one of the inserts and placing it where the wee hits for extra absorption (see picture) We are all definitely enjoying the extra hour or so of sleep! Thank you so much Mimi & Co!"

Cheeky Night Nappy Bundle

Best Reusable Night Nappy Bundle: Cheeky Fitted Night Nappy Bundle: $150 for 3 nappies, 3 boosters and one cover

The Cheeky Fitted Bundle contains 3 super absorbent fitted bamboo nappies, 3 bamboo boosters, 3 fleece liners plus one PUL cover, which makes this a good value night nappy bundle.

You'll absolutely love that Cheeky bamboo nappies are charcoal coloured - because why would you want the most soiled thing you'll ever wash to be white! But also because the grey colour shows when the nappy is wet easily.

Type: Fitted Bamboo Nappy & Nappy Cover, plus additional bamboo booster for extra absorbency.

Material: Bamboo / Organic Cotton / PUL Wrap

Sizing: 3 sizes are available, go for size 2 for a 'One size fits most' option for your little one.

Customer reviews: "These are great overnight nappies, I’ve tried a lot of different brands of nappies but these are our favourite for overnight. You can pop big pads/boosters in them and it still doesn’t make it tight on their legs tummy, as the elasticated legs and waistband is soft and stretchy. I’ve had my first set of these for well over a year now and they are still going great, they are still comfy on my toddler - we have the size 3 and she is about 33lbs, but still lots of room for growing."

Baby Beehinds Night Nappies

Most Eco Reusable Overnight Nappy: Baby Beehinds Night Nappy + Wool Cover: $80

Baby Beehinds are an Aussie brand who've been in the game since 2004, so they know what they're talking about. We've rated this 'most eco' because it uses organic cotton, plus a Australian wool cover, so it's super sustainable!

Best Overnight Disposable Nappies

'Eco' nappies are a HUGE source of greenwashing and fairly dodgy marketing. And yes, I have skin in the game as a reusable nappy business. But so often I see reviews on eco nappies from people saying 'So glad I've got these nappies knowing they'll decompose quickly'

This is NONSENSE.

The only real 'eco' elements about an eco nappy which makes it better than Huggies or Pampers is that generally, the inner wood pulp which features in all disposable nappies is sourced from FSC ceritified woods.

That's really it. ALL disposable nappies contain plastic of some sort. Eco nappies tend to have bio plastic rather than oil based plastic but bioplastics are still rubbish for the environment.

Look out for 'Plant based material' - when companies say that, what they mean is 'bioplastic'.

They will degrade slightly quicker in landfill (like 450 years instead of 500) and into smaller pieces.  But this isn't better for the environment but still use HUGE amounts of resources and create literally shitloads of waste. BTW - things are NOT supposed to degrade quickly in landfill because it creates landfill gases, methane etc which contribute to climate change.

Anyway, stepping OFF my soap box now! I'm not judging anyone for using disposable nappies because everyone has different circumstances. But I hate greenwashing and this is a massive source of it!

Joonya Disposable Nappies

Most Ethical Disposable Night Nappy: Joonya Nappies: 150 size 4 nappies for $105 (Subscription price $95)

We like Joonya because they're an 'eco' nappy that doesn't join in with the green washing although they do blether about 'bio-based materials'. Instead they focus on the fact that the materials used in their nappies are forest friendly and the materials have been tested to be kind to sensitive skin. Plus they publish their lab test results for complete transparency. However, that being said they don't publish their reviews on the website, but mainly gifted reviews on productreviews.com.au.

Type: 'Eco' Disposable

Material: FSC certified pulp

Sizing: Size 1 (2 to 4kg) to Size 5 (12 to 18kg) available

Customer reviews: "The nappies are such a great fit and are very absorbent for my little lad. Beautiful design and so soft. Great product :)"

Huggies Overnites Disposable Nappies

Best Premium Overnight Disposable Nappy: Huggies Overnites: 116 size 4 nappies for $134

Huggies overnites are owned by Kimberley Clark, very highly rated in USA and around the world and are now available on Amazon AU. However the recent Australian reviews have been less than positive, so not sure if there is a manufacturing glitch?

Type: Standard Disposable Nappy.

Material: Unspecified

Sizing: Starts at size 3 (16lb to 28lb) to Size 6.

Customer reviews: "My 3 year old and my 10 month old both wear these in different sizes. They’ve never leaked once. Ever. And my kids always seem comfy which is also important. Great quality, very soft and absorbent."

Pampers Swaddlers Overnight Nappies

Best Big Brand Overnight Disposable Nappy Pampers Swaddlers Overnight Nappies: 104 Size 4 nappies for $115

Pampers are another of the global 'Big Brands', owned by Procter & Gamble.

Type: Standard Disposable

Material: Not specified

Sizing: 3 sizes are available from Size 3 to Size 5

Customer reviews: "This is the only over night brand that works for us. My 6 month old sleeps through the night (12 hours) and this is only brand that keeps her dry all night. Yes the diaper is huge in the morning BUT I don't have to change the sheets every day now."

Honest Overnight Nappies

Best Budget Disposable Night Nappy:Honest Overnight Baby Diapers: 54 Size 4 Nappies for $56.57

Thankfully, Honest don't call themselves an eco nappy but just say that they try to use sustainable materials which are skin friendly. However they do pull the old 'Our bio-based core, with sustainably harvested fluff pulp and plant-derived materials, is eco-friendly'. It's all true, but 'plant derived materials' is another term for bio plastic. It's marginally more ecofriendly than Pampers, but these nappies still take hundreds of years to decompose in landfill. That is NOT ecofriendly.

Type: Skin friendly Disposable Nappies

Material: FSC certified wood pulp

Sizing: 4 sizes are available from Size 3 (16 - 28lbs) to Size 6 (14.5kg - 20kg)

Customer reviews: 'These do work great for our son who is allergic to every other diaper. We have done the cloth diapers but he had a bad bout of diarrhea for about a month and we couldn't use the cloth ones because it absorbed too much and didn't rinse out well so these worked great and they really do last a long period of time with no leaks but they're on the pricy side. I wish they were cheaper or had some more coupons for them.'

Tooshies Overnight Nappies

Best Budget Eco Disposable Overnight Nappy: Tooshies Eco Nappies: 72 for $46.80

Tooshies are an Aussie based company who make 'planet friendly' nappies made from bamboo primarily. Again 'plant based materials' are mentioned rather than bioplastics which is what they are.

That aside, they get great reviews and are a very good price, although the website is unclear how many nappies you get in a pack.

Type: Sustainable Disposable Nappy

Material: Bamboo Core

Sizing: Size 1 (3 - 5kg) to size 5 (13 - 18kg)

Customer reviews: 'I found no issues when using these on my son. I think my favourite aspect was how long the nappies go up the back, I definitely found them to be higher than other brands. They also seemed to fit my son quite comfortably and were not as bulky around his lower end.'
